High on the slopes of the Rothaar Mountains rests Haus Astenalm – quiet, green and wonderfully far from everyday life.
The Rothaarsteig, one of Germany's best-known hiking trails, passes right by the house – and the Postwiese ski area is just about 200 metres away: simply cross the road and you are on the slopes. At the same time, a few minutes by car take you into the centre of Winterberg (about 4 km), with everything a holiday town should have. So with us you stay in the middle of nature without missing a thing.

Ski rental at the Postwiese
Rent skis, boards and sledges right at the Postwiese valley station – no need to haul equipment up the mountain.
Free ski bus
In winter the ski bus runs every 15 minutes to the ski areas around Winterberg – free with a ski pass.

There is more to discover around Winterberg than fits into one holiday. A few favourites:
- Kahler Asten – At 841 metres one of the highest mountains in North Rhine-Westphalia – the lookout tower offers sweeping views over the Rothaar range.
- Winterberg bobsleigh track – The famous World Cup track: watching is a spectacle in itself, and the brave can ride along in the guest bob.
- Summer toboggan run – In Winterberg you can race down the mountain even without snow – great fun for children and adults alike.
- Lenne spring & Rothaarsteig – The source of the river Lenne lies on the Kahler Asten – and the Rothaarsteig leads you along panoramic paths through the mountains, in stages for every level.
- Half-timbered towns – Hallenberg and Schmallenberg enchant with half-timbered lanes, small shops and cafés – perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
- Winterberg itself – The lively town centre with shops, restaurants and events is only about 4 km away.
